Common Causes of Window Leaks in your Palisade house
3/28/2022 (Permalink)
Window leaks
Windows leaking is particularly common, and they also make it difficult for homeowners to determine what the problem may be. However, there are many factors to consider when analyzing the cause of a window leak, so before repair can take place, a diagnosis is necessary.
Main reasons that windows leak and what you can do about them.
The window is leaking at the bottom.
If the windows have metal or vinyl frames, they have drain holes near the bottom edge of the frame. These holes are designed to allow the water to escape the frame, but they can become clogged. Clean out the jams.
Water on the Windows When There's No Rain
Water droplets that form on the inside of the glass that doesn't correspond to the outdoor weather are a sign of condensation. It can be easily remedied by adjusting your home's humidity with central air conditioning or a dehumidifier. By lowering the moisture levels in the air, you can reduce the amount of condensation that forms on the window. Excess condensation can lead to mold growth over time.
Water is coming in around the window.
Often, these leaks happen because the caulk or sealant around the window has gotten old and cracked, allowing rain to enter the house. The fix for this situation is simple – peel out the old caulking and replace it with new window caulking.
The window leaking Around the Top of Your Window
Leaks at the top of the window can signify mistakes made during installation. For instance, the flashing might be improperly installed, or it might be missing altogether. However, if the house wrap isn't correctly installed, that could cause the window to leak, too.
Water is leaking between the panes of a double-paned window.
The glass seal has deteriorated, and rain is working between the panes. However, that gas that's supposed to be between the panes to provide an insulating factor is gone. Installing new windows will increase the home's energy efficiency.
For any water damage in your home or commercial property, SERVPRO of Grand Junction's highly trained technicians are ready to help you out 24/7. We'll restore the water damage and make it look "Like it never even happened." Call us today at 970-949-3235.

A Rich History of SERVPRO Service
2/1/2022 (Permalink)
SERVPRO vans
For over 50 years, people across the country have been turning to SERVPRO for all of their restoration and remediation needs. Whenever disaster strikes, we are among the first to respond and help communities large and small get back on the road to recovery. We take pride in that reputation and in our rich history that has helped to build the SERVPRO brand.
That history began in 1967 when Ted and Doris Isaacson founded their painting business, but it wasn’t long before SERVPRO had expanded to become the cleaning and restoration specialists you can trust. In 1969 the Isaacson's sold their first franchise and by 1979 they had expanded to 175 franchises across the country.
With the company outgrowing its original headquarters, it moved to Gallatin, Tennessee in 1988, by which time it counted a total of 647 franchises under the SERVPRO brand. The 1,000th SERVPRO franchise was opened in 2000 and today there are more than 1,700 franchises nationwide. As it continued to add franchises, SERVPRO built its reputation as a nationally recognized name in restoration and cleaning.
From the very beginning, SERVPRO has been about more than just providing quality professional restoration services. We also take great pride in our tradition of service to the community. This includes both national recognition for the corporate headquarters and individual efforts that have earned acclaim for the many local franchises. Here at SERVPRO of Grand Junction, we’ve reached out to our neighbors and lent a hand in many different ways.
Time and again, SERVPRO has been among the first to step up and provide help when a major disaster strikes. We’ve helped with cleanup after the California wildfires, bailed out communities in the Midwest after historic flooding, and pitched in to help rebuild after the devastation of Super Storm Sandy on the East Coast. No job is too big or small and we’ll never turn our backs on a community in need.
When damage occurs, you need someone you can count on to provide the professional service you need with the personal touch you deserve. SERVPRO is proud of our history as the first name in water, fire, and storm damage repair and restoration. We’re ready to respond faster to any disaster and we’ll stand by you and help you get on your feet again because that’s what being a good neighbor is all about.

Why Choosing a Qualified Preferred Vendor Matters
5/26/2021 (Permalink)
SERVPRO a Preferred Vendor for many Insurance Companies
Why Choosing a Qualified Preferred Vendor Matters
A client calls your office to report that they have an insurance claim in Grand Junction, CO. Like most business owners facing a disaster, they're anxious to get the cleanup and restoration process completed as quickly as possible. As an insurance agent, you have a responsibility to help your client get the help they need while keeping costs down for your company. Luckily, you have a list of preferred vendors, and you inform your client that the names on that list are truly the best. Here's why it matters to you and your client that they choose a preferred vendor.
1. Qualified
To participate in the vendor program, a company has to verify that they are qualified to complete the services that they say they provide. Vendors who value their business will keep good records of certifications. Still, it's even more important to know that the staff receives regular continuing education to stay on top of the latest best practices. A company like SERVPRO has a set of twenty-one guidelines that employees of each franchise must meet to remain on preferred vendor lists.
2. Compliant
In addition to qualified staff, a preferred vendor who wants to be recommended by an insurance agent must maintain compliance with all industry standards. This means that the tools they use, the standards to which they complete jobs, and how they maintain project paperwork all have to be above board. The easiest way to ensure that these things happen is to work with a company with consistent expectations for every franchisee.
3. Professional
The last thing that your client wants to deal with is a vendor who doesn't keep in touch. SERVPRO has the reach to ensure that calls are answered and the resources to keep every project organized.
As an insurance agent, you want your clients to be confident when choosing a restoration company after a disaster. Encourage your clients to use the preferred vendor list to be confident that they are working with the best in the business.

Cross Contamination is a Concern: Here's How You Can Prevent It
5/9/2020 (Permalink)
Turn off fans and AC units if you see visible mold in your home
Use the Following To Prevent Additional Contamination
Mold cleanup requires careful attention to detail. In fact, business owners in Palisade, CO, should be aware that spores spread very quickly. In fact, if they are not controlled, the infestation spreads further, making remediation more extensive and pricey. Therefore, it's best to work with a reputable mold restoration company to identify the full extent of damage. Furthermore, to keep your premises as safe as possible, use the following to prevent additional contamination.
1. Test the Building
Because mold spores reproduce within 24 to 48 hours, the number of microbes can expand from a small area to an entire structure much sooner than you'd believe. With that in mind, you'll want to find out exactly how much of the property is impacted. Experts can use various assessments to conclude where fungal growth has gone.
2. Establish Barriers
Once you know the hazardous territory, you can work to create a boundary. No one should go into these zones unless authorized from by the specialists. Mold cleanup, then, becomes focused on specific spaces. Be very aware that it's easy to relocate a growth. Spores can be picked up on shoes or clothes and then dropped onto carpet or tile as you enter another space. With that in mind, stay out as much as possible. If you must, post signs to warn others.
3. Turn Off the AC
Part of mold contamination includes cutting off the air circulation. Microorganisms such as fungus transport via the airways. Thus, the vent system is a serious concern, allowing for unnecessary movement. The crew can set up negative air chambers, keeping the infected air from entering other rooms. In addition, the ac unit should be shut off.
Remain on your toes. Mold cleanup isn't just spraying something with cleaner. It's an awareness of how easily something can become a major issue. Cut off contact with the location, and allow the specialists to tend to the problem.
How and Why Mold Grows on Bread
3/24/2020 (Permalink)
Bread mold is common and nothing to be alarmed over
Four Reasons Why Mold Loves Bread
Not every fungal occurrence needs a mold remediation expert in Grand Junction, CO. Food mold, especially bread mold, is a common phenomenon, and it only requires a garbage bag. Although, the constant and rapid molding of food can be a sign of a more significant issue. However, there are four typical reasons mold loves bread.
- Ingredients
- Porous Surface
- Temperature
- Light
Ingredients
While many people like to avoid bread because of the carbs and gluten, it is still food. Mold is a type of fungus growth, but it is also a living organism that requires nutrients to survive. Bread is a good source of nutrients because of the yeast and other common ingredients.
Porous Surface
Bread mold starts as a spore, and that spore cannot just set up a home anywhere. Mold spores need to root into a surface, which means the surface must be porous. If you have ever looked at a piece of bread, then you know that its surface is full of pours.
Temperature
Beyond nutrition and a place to take root, mold needs a cool space to grow. Many people believe that putting bread in their fridge will prevent mold, but fridge mold is very real. Placing bread in the refrigerator might actually reduce its lifespan and make it more susceptible to fungal growth.
Light
Mold is sensitive to light, which is why it prefers dark spaces. However, that does not mean you should put your bread on the counter or in the window. Drawers and bread boxes are preferred because they help limit the exposure to mold spores, which are everywhere. Although, you should also keep your bread in a sealed bag or container to further reduce exposure.
Bread mold is common and nothing to be alarmed over. Although, if you are experiencing rapid fungal growth on multiple food items, then you might want to call a specialist to inspect your home for signs of a fungal infestation.

Packing out Contents and Performing Reconstruction of a Grand Junction Home with Fire Damage
Fire Damage Grand Junction
Sometimes a fire can burn hot enough and long enough to cause structural damage to your home. Electrical fires in living rooms often find an abundant supply of dry materials that can exponentially increase the intensity of the combusting materials. In these situations, it may be unsafe for you to re-enter the home, and temporary relocation is a necessity. Our restoration services are comprehensive and compassionate for homeowners who are temporarily displaced as a result of the fire.
We provide fire damage restoration to Grand Junction residents for any size disaster. Our pack-out services are available to residents who are unfortunate enough to experience a severe property damage incident. During pack out, our team of SERVPRO technicians can store information on your content using a digital inventory. These inventories help us to record the condition of possessions as well as their location in the home. Our team can enlist professional removers on your behalf to ensure that the pack out procedure runs smoothly.
Content fire damage removal during pack out is taken to a climate-controlled warehouse. Certains items like clothing and fabrics can be given special cleaning when at the warehouse. Esporta washing machines are particularly effective at restoring damaged fabrics because they suspend the fabric while mechanical washers provide water and cleaning solution. SERVPRO can incorporate deodorization of your contents during storage to ensure they return to the home in a preloss condition.
The advantage of a pack out for restorers is that we gain unrestricted access to the structure of your home. The roster of SERVPRO technicians includes those who complete a 10 hours general and construction training program. This training allows us to conduct reconstruction of the structure in your home without having to rely on a third-party. During service removal and replacement of materials is conducted entirely by SERVPRO. We dispose of any non-salvageable materials in designated waste facilities.
Experiencing severe fire is stressful. We can help ensure that the restoration process is calm and efficient. Contact SERVPRO of Grand Junction at (970) 241-8181.

Grand Junction and the Surrounding Areas Benefit from SERVPRO’s Cleanup and Restoration Services
11/25/2019 (Permalink)
Grand Junction Co has a very famous SERVPRO Franchise Ready to Help with Cleanup and Restoration after Property Damaging Events
Our Sense of Community and Responsibility Are Why SERVPRO Crews Demonstrate Dedication in Grand Junction
We embrace the challenge of providing premium-quality disaster recovery services to residents and businesses in our region of Colorado. Located in Grand Junction, our headquarters and production facility hums with activity, bringing professional skills and commercial-grade equipment to your crisis. Commitment to addressing the human part of the restoration equation is a priority. Our management and employees work through all phases of a project with sensitivity and compassion, understanding our efforts can restore peace of mind and comfort as well as properties.
Water Damage
Residential water losses often have mundane backstories, but the effects of leaks and water intrusions can be severe in Grand Junction, no matter the cause. Sometimes the emergency is dramatic, like a main supply pipe or water heater bursting, capable of filling your lower levels with inches to feet of water. Other times the damage goes undetected for weeks or months, tiny pipe leaks or areas of condensation slowly building layer upon layer of harm to structural components or fixtures.
No water damage in Grand Junction is too severe or too inconsequential for our services. SERVPRO also promotes continuing education for all of our technicians and project leads, ensuring we remain sharp and grounded in the restoration industry's best practices. Whereas substantial leaks are easy to locate, our crews also specialize in a range of moisture detection strategies, tracking the migration of water and its damage away from the source. Moisture probes analyze how much liquid porous structures absorbed during the loss. Infrared imaging uses temperature differentials to pinpoint where quantities of hidden water might be trapped.
Tracing the path of water incursions is vital to overall water damage restoration success. Our crew members use submersible pumps and high-efficiency extractors to remove the bulk of the water, striving to collect and properly dispose of as much as possible. If we locate a potential cache of water behind a structure controlled demolition techniques like flood cuts or drilled holes permit access for release and to improve drying times. Air movers and heaters concentrate on moving absorbed fluid into the air as vapor. Then our evaporative or desiccant dehumidifiers can finish water removal by capturing it for disposal.
Fire Damage
A Grand Junction household fire can be devastating. Your priority is getting family members and pets away from the smoke and flames. The feeling of relief you feel after accomplishing evacuation of those you love is replaced swiftly with a wash of other emotions. Fear contends with worries about expenses, despair about the loss of beloved items and priceless heirlooms, and confusion about what to do next.
The SERVPRO team brilliantly helps you manage post-fire damage issues in Grand Junction. We have crews available 24/7, ready to arrive as the firefighters exit. Our specialties and certifications are multiple, ensuring we can handle everything from fire-fighting water removal to deodorization of persistent stenches. Between those two phases, our full-service fire loss mitigation and remediation team is poised to consider and implement a furnishings, household goods, and personal possessions pack-out, debris and soot removal, safety assessments, significant charring abatement, and many more tasks and steps.
Every fire damage scenario is unique, and we tailor our response to the variables found in your home. We are prepared to partition off a clean living space or move you to temporary housing approved by your insurance. Heavy soiling to personal items might lead you to believe they need disposal, but we love to demonstrate the skills of our Contents Processing Technicians. They can return both practical and beloved items to function and appearance. Our goal is to return your dwelling to preloss condition while also easing your mind.
Mold Remediation
Unaddressed small leaks and incompletely dried water losses are two common reasons we see mold growth in Grand Junction. Mold spores are benign for most purposes when dry, tiny, and inconsequential despite being in all environments. Add 24 to 48 hours of dampness to the mix, and many strains of mold can proliferate.
Musty smells and dark staining are clues that your Grand Junction home has mold damage. We know how disturbing mold growth can be, so we train our crew members through IICRC and other courses to remediate your scenario. Our fast response and adherence to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-developed protocols are why SERVPRO should be your first call. We can remove active colonies, dispose of the debris according to local regulations, and disinfect the affected areas.
Once we complete a job, the mold spore levels in your home reduce to normal. Mold spores remain in all environments. You cannot rely on any business that tells you they can eliminate mold entirely from your house. Decontamination of Grand Junction Homes Before Reconstruction
Flood incidents vary in degree of contamination, but it is one of the first aspects that our team must identify about a disaster when we arrive at a Grand Junction home. The family and our team members could be at risk ifcontamination is too widespread and underappreciated, so cleaning and disinfection are vital roles of the work that we must do. Flooding can produce multiple consequences for your home, many of which can be hazardous to your health or the property without the appropriate intervention.
Knowing whom to call to handle the flood damage in your Grand Junction home is a step towards protecting it during this stressful time. Our SERVPRO team can respond quickly to these emergencies, even in the middle of the night. We have the experience and a line of potent cleaning and disinfection products that can help to protect your property from the contamination threat that flooding can present.
Even in situations where much of the exposed materials are getting removed and replaced, the use of disinfection agents can still help to protect structural elements. Removing bacterial threats can reduce the need for controlled demolition and later reconstruction. We have many chlorine-based cleansers that have a strong effectiveness against contaminants and microorganisms, but for areas where the harsh cleaner smell can become overwhelming, we have potent botanical-based options as well. Often we can spray an antimicrobial product into standing water to initiate the extermination of unwanted organisms.
Having qualified and licensed contractors on staff can help to reduce the transition between mitigation and complete reconstruction. Controlled demolition techniques can often follow much of the extraction and drying efforts, which can give our SERVPRO team access to affected materials and structural elements.
Disinfection is a common element to flooding scenarios, as many of these circumstances stem from natural flooding disasters that can introduce contaminants and microorganisms to the house. Our SERVPRO of Grand Junction team has a renowned line of cleaning products and disinfectants to protect structural elements and reduce health hazards to the occupants of the house. Why SERVPRO Relies on Advanced Technologies to Fix Flood Damage in Grand Junction
Flooding can cause a wide range of damages when it affects your Grand Junction home. Common problems after such an incident include heavy soiling in various sections of the property, structural damage caused by water as it penetrates different surfaces, and bad odor. Fixing all the issues restores the property to its preloss state, but it can be a tedious process. We offer professional restoration of flooded properties and rely on various technologies to ease the process.
Water drives various types of debris and soils into the house during incidents of flood damage in Grand Junction. Common contaminants include raw sewage, chemicals, silt, and mud, so the cleaning effort must address several aspects. Removing heavily porous materials to combat contamination and thoroughly cleaning non-porous materials is necessary. Our SERVPRO technicians bring different carpet removal tools, including hot-melt glue guns, carpet shears, and duckbill knives to every work site affected by flooding facilitating faster removal. We also have various surface scrubbers for expedited cleaning of other surfaces.
Water permeates different materials and contents within the house. Wood and its derivatives such as particleboards deteriorate from extended exposure to water. Fast extraction and evaluation of the level of penetration can help save affected materials. Our SERVPRO technicians rely on different sophisticated technologies to remove water from your property. We have truck-mounted water extractors, which expedite removal when there are significant amounts of water. We also have various moisture detection equipment, including thermal cameras to check water infiltration levels.
A bad odor that lingers even after cleaning up your home is a common outcome of flooding incidents. Some contaminants have odor particles that penetrate deep into materials making it hard to remove them through regular cleaning efforts. Using deodorizing agents that penetrate the material just like the odor particles is the best way to control such odors. Our SERVPRO technicians rely on various equipment such as ULV foggers, which atomize deodorizing agents, allowing them to combine with odor particles neutralizing them.
In case of flooding incidents, call SERVPRO of Grand Junction to assist. You can reach us at (970) 241-8181 any time. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

How a Leaking Dishwasher Causes Water Damage to Your Mesa Home
12/17/2018 (Permalink)
Malfunctioning dishwashers are one the biggest causes of water damage in homes.
Water Removal Cleanup for Your Mesa Home
When your home in Mesa has experienced a water damage emergency from a malfunctioning dishwasher, you could have several gallons of water sitting in your kitchen. The issue needs to be addressed right away to prevent additional damages. Water damages become irreparable to the flooring, cabinets, and your structure itself the longer it sits.
Professional water removal services are needed for Mesa right away. Our staff at SERVPRO work quickly to get to your residence as quickly as possible after you contact us. We have the experience and the equipment to dry your home back out and get your life back to normal. It is easy to see in a situation like this why SERVPRO is the first choice in water damage restoration.
Since the water emergency happened in your kitchen, SERVPRO technicians inspect the flooring and the subflooring for damage, as well as the surrounding cabinets around the dishwasher. Grouted joints and ceramic tile are usually waterproofed when installed over plywood. However, any cracks make the tile vulnerable to water damage. Many times, the tile is unaffected, but water can penetrate the grouting, creating warping or expansion of the floor. The tiles break apart at the joints and come loose because of this.
Plus, in the case of a dishwasher malfunction, the water is likely coming up from underneath the tile, causing the subflooring to swell and the tiles to crack. We replace or reinstall the tiles once we dry the subfloor and repair it. It might be necessary to dry the floor form the bottom or drill holes into the floor so we can adequately monitor the drying process. We use a nonpenetrating moisture meter to detect moisture underneath the ceramic tiles. The dishwasher itself is also carefully moved so we can dry out underneath it.
SERVPRO of Grand Junction understands the effects of water on subflooring and ceramic tiles when your home in Palisade, Redlands, or Mesa has a water damage emergency. Give us a call as soon as you realize there is a problem at (970) 241-8181, so we can restore your home fast.

Your Mold Infestation Does Not Stand A Chance Against Our Team In Clifton
11/17/2018 (Permalink)
Mold damage occurs in Clifton as long as the temperature is between 68 and 86 degrees.
Why SERVPRO Is The Best Option For Mold Damage Removal In Clifton
Right now, Clifton residents are winterizing their homes. Replacing insulation for outdoor water taps and sealing minor cracks along the foundation to prevent further damage for example. While both are important, the increasingly cold weather does not eliminate the threat from the mold.
Mold damage occurs in Clifton as long as the temperature is between 68 and 86 degrees. Since this is the temperature range, most homeowners maintain, SERVPRO understands the need for continued observation and removal.
Much of the mold infestation we remove remains on surfaces for the most part. As mold grows, the majority of it travels over surfaces like support beams in the attic. The action rapidly extends the size of the colony, but it is easier to clean and dispose of from home.
If the mold spores are still dry and powdery, our restoration technicians wipe it away with brushes and dry cloths. It is simple to bag and remove from the home. After removing the mold, technicians spray the surfaces with an anti-fungal agent from our extensive inventory to kill any remaining spores that might still exist in corners or tight spots under the roof.
If the mold is thicker and damp with moisture, SERVPRO technicians can use vacuums with special HEPA filters to remove the mold. As they remove the dry or wet mold, other team members look for the source of moisture that helped the mold to expand and spread. Many of the leaks we find at this time of year are small seeps in the roof or under the eaves that accumulate in a small pool.
Team members dry these pools and remove any spores with sponges. After removing the water, they spray the area with another anti-fungal agent to reduce the risk of further growth. Our teams can cover and repair minor seeps with caulk, but major cracks in the wall or roof damage require a licensed contractor.
At SERVPRO of Grand Junction, our task is to clean and remove mold so that you can return to your home in time for the holidays. If you have any problems with mold, or can only detect that distinctive odor many spores exude, call us at (970) 241-8181 today to schedule an inspection.
