Excessive Flood Damage In Grand Junction Can Get Caused By Ice Dams
During the winter and spring seasons in Grand Junction, snowfall can become a weekly or bi-weekly occurrence. When the snow starts to get deep, several conditions can take place that can cause flood damage to your property. For instance, the snow can get so deep to where your roof cannot take the weight and cave in. Or, snow can build up on the outside of your house and leak in from your doors during melting.
Another incident that our SERVPRO technicians know that can cause excessive flood damage in Grand Junction is an ice dam forming. Ice dams occur when there is a variation of temperatures on your roof after it snows. If it stays cold outside after a snowstorm, ice can start to form at the edge of your roof. The heat from your house can then cause the roof in the center of your structure to warm up and cause the snow sitting on that portion of your roof to melt. The liquid H2O melting off of the warmer part of your roof will then get stuck on the ice block instead of draining off the side of the top of your building or going into your gutters.
Once the ice dam on the edge of your roof forms, it can completely prevent any water from draining off your roof. Therefore, the more snow that melts from, the warmer sections of your roof, the bigger the ice dam can grow. These large ice dams can then cause liquid H2O to build upon your roof and start to saturate your building materials.
Luckily, when excessive moisture builds on your rooftop, our team of experts at SERVPRO can handle the various problems associated with ice dams. We know that water leaking from your roof can cause you to suffer from your roof decking and rafters rotting. Ice dams can also cause huge icicles to form, which can cause you problems with your siding, shingles, and gutters.
