Ultrasonic Cleaning of Soot-Damaged Items in Grand Junction

Soot damage can be a challenging effect to overcome after a fire has damaged your Grand Junction property. Our technicians can do much of the cleaning and restoration work that your home or business requires on-site, but some of the contents damaged throughout the disaster can benefit from our advanced equipment available at our facility.

Ultrasonic cleaning is an advanced method of treating items damaged by soot residue and particulates. These contents often arrive at our facility coated with a film of this carbon byproduct, but this equipment can clean it completely using bubbles generated by the waves made in the pool. As Marlyce Darnell, our fire production manager explains, “ultrasonic waves actually create thousands of tiny bubbles” and these generated bubbles coat the item in the machine entirely, falling to the bottom of the tank once they have removed bits of soot from the affected item.

How items get selected for this treatment varies based on the damage that they have sustained within the home, and which items have the right composition and integrity to endure the submersion cleaning approach. Ultrasonic cleaning is one of several methods of soot removal and restoration available to our contents department involved with the pack-out process.

As you can see at the beginning of this video, the fruit bowl begins coated with a film of soot that has come to rest in every crevice and opening throughout the decorative piece. Contents like this are ideal for use in our ultrasonic machine, as they can dry easily and spend as much time in the tank as is necessary to remove the soot damage entirely. Items get placed in the drop basket to both encourage a full coverage of bubbles from the ultrasonic sound waves and also to protect our SERVPRO technicians from the often excessive heat of the water within the machine.

While you never want to have to endure the widespread effects of a fire on your property, the right restoration team is vital to protecting the contents of your home or business as well as restoring the damage on site.
